The Newest President of the CFDA is a Black Woman

CaSandra Diggs was promoted to President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA) on August 10, 2020. Diggs, who previously served as CFDA’s Chief Administrative and Financial Officer, will now preside over the most important organization supporting fashion and design in America and if that’s not exciting to you then I don’t know what to say.

I am still learning more about Diggs but I’m excited because to me this signals another step in the right direction for fashion as the Council is in charge of bestowing awards on America’s best designers in every category – menswear, womenswear, jewelry, and accessories. The Council also has a major impact on who and what is next in American fashion through their yearly showcase of the brightest fashion talents from American design schools, their coveted CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund scholarship, and their CFDA {FASHION INCUBATOR} program.

Diggs has only just created her Instagram, but I do really hope that she will be able to work with the CEO, Steven Kolb, and the others on the board to continue to change the landscape for fashion in America. She is the first African American and the first woman to hold this position.
