My whole life I have been focused on one thing with my hair: growing it longer.
I have been natural my whole life, so as a Black girl, it has been a long journey filled with ups and downs due to my time in sports (I sweat a ton.), the natural hair craze (I learned a lot of styles through trial and unfortunate error), and my general contempt for things that are are too hard for no reason (“Wash Day” should not take 3 days…but it has at least twice before :-/).
So at the start of the pandemic I decided that I was going to take this time to really put effort into over-caring for my hair. I knew I wouldn’t be going anywhere for a while and I had a few styles that I learned from the natural hair craze that were low manipulation. It was the perfect time to really let my hair do it’s thing. But I just needed an extra boost…
Insta Inspo
My inspiration came from, of course, one of my favorite follows on Insta. Ciera Rogers of @shopbabes had been growing her hair our for the past few months and right before the pandemic answered a few questions about her process on her page.
The secret ingredient in her process? Africa’s Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise.
She was living in LA where the air was a little more humid (which helps with hair moisture thus growth) than my sunny Dallas BUT Ciera is originally a Texas girl too. So, I gave it a try.
I noticed the difference in two months. No kidding. After two months of adding Africa’s Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise product to my routine my hair was growing faster, it felt stronger, and it was thickening up the hair in general. I could tell because the four to six sections that I usually washed my hair in were bouncing back from the heat damage, they were fuller, and the curls elongated further and further down my face.
Finally at my trim in July, my stylist confirmed my suspicions. I asked her if my hair was dry (a constant concern of mine for reasons unknown…) and about the split ends. She told me that the split ends weren’t as bad as they usually were and that my hair was a lot longer than she remembered it being. She even trimmed less off than usual. “Whatever you are using on your hair is really working,” she said.
I was hooked! I came home and told my sister and insisted that she started using it on her hair too. She used it and told me she could tell a difference but her hair goals are different than mine, so she only uses the hair mayonnaise as a deep conditioner every few months. Even still her hair was growing too.
Secret’s Out
When you look up Africa’s Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise the description says it is “enriched with natural botanical herbal extracts, vitamins, egg protein and olive oil to condition, moisturize and strengthen damaged or over-processed hair. With consistent use, it helps to rejuvenate and renew weak fragile hair leaving the hair healthier looking with greater body shine, elasticity and moisture.”
Rosemary, one of the key ingredients in the hair mayonnaise, is known to help with hair growth by healing nerve damage in the scalp and stimulating tissue to encourage hair growth. It is said that you can begin to see a difference in your hair when you use rosemary consistently for six months. No imagine adding egg protein to strengthen your hair and the olive oil to help with continued moisture, softness, and shine? You have a product that is guaranteed to give you some kind of results!
So how do I include Africa’s Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise in my wash day routine? I just it as a deep conditioner and detangler.
After I wash my hair twice (to ensure all product buildup is gone), I massage a good amount of the hair mayonnaise into my hair from my roots to the ends on my hair by section. I make sure every strand is covered and I finger detangle as I go. When I finish all the sections I let it sit on my hair to condition it. The jar suggests for 10 minutes but I like to leave it for a little less than an hour. I’m careful not to leave it on too long though, because it is a protein based product and that can over saturate your hair and make it angry (read: stiff and/or brittle). When time is up, I comb whatever is left of the tangles in my hair out, starting from ends and heading towards the roots, and then I rinse throughly with warm water. I put one more conditioner on my hair to ensure moisture and elongation. Finally, rinse that out after about 5 minutes and I’m home free.
Honestly, it’s the best extra hour spent for my hair in forever. My hair is stronger and is now evenly past bra length after these two years of the pandemic. I am able to wear it blown out with not much frizz. The heat damage that I had is all gone. My slightly damaged edges are filling in again and my natural curl pattern has been enhanced.
Would you recommend?
So if I had to recommend any product to jumpstart your hair growth process, clearly I would want everyone I know to buy Africa’s Best Organics Hair Mayonnaise. I usually buy it in my local beauty supply or major grocery store retailer but Africa’s Best sells it online as well! It comes in a 15 oz jar and I have used the same one for about a year. It cost’s anywhere from $5.00 – $8.00.
If I can find some before and after photos of my hair I will post them in the coming weeks. But while I am looking for them go ahead and give it a try! If you do, let me know what you think in the comments below or send me a message! I hope it works as well for you as it does for me!
